First, Marvel rolled out Avengers: Endgame, now they're releasing the latest installment in the story of Spider-Man with Spider-Man: Far From Home, in theaters today.
In honor of the film's release, we're looking back at every Spider-Man movie in the franchise. Keep reading to get a complete list of Spider-Man movies in chronological order from oldest to newest.
'Spider-Man'
Premiering on May 3, 2002, Tobey Maguire played the shy and nerdy teenager, Peter Parker, who after being bitten by a radioactive spider while on a school field trip, became Spider-Man.
With an estimated budget of $139 million, Spider-Man grossed more than $403 million at box offices worldwide. A huge success, fans and critics alike enjoyed the action scenes and humor Maguire brought to the role.
Maguire starred in the hit film along fellow cast members Kirsten Dunst (Mary Jane Watson), Willem Dafoe (Green Goblin/Norman Osborn), and James Franco (Harry Osborn) among others.
Recently, there have been rumblings of Maguire putting on the Spidey suit again and the actor, now 44, hasn't ruled out the possibility.
"I just don't really have an 'I would or wouldn't do' mindset, I'll just do whatever…whatever it is that comes that I feel called to, that may or may not fit in any kind of box," Macguire told The Hollywood Reporter in April of this year.
'Spider-Man 2'
Maguire reprised his role as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in a sequel, which hit theaters on June 30, 2004, according to IMDb. Up against another villain Spider-Man still found ways to make audiences laugh while saving the world one web at a time.
With a considerably bigger budget than the original, Spider-Man 2 had $200 million to work with to create movie magic. Cumulatively, the sequel earned $783 million at box offices worldwide, almost more than double the earnings the previous film made two years earlier.
While sequels often get a bad rap for falling short of their predecessors, Spider-Man 2 received higher ratings on Rotten Tomatoes.
'Spider-Man 3'
For a third time, Maguire became Spider-Man when Marvel released Spider-Man 3 on May 4, 2007.
Five years and one day after the first installment hit theaters, the third film saw Franco's character, Harry Osborn, and Parker's best friend, — spoiler alert — become the villain, credited as the New Goblin.
Like the sequel, the third film had a bigger budget with even bigger profits. Spider-Man 3 had a budget of $258 million and grossed $890 million at box offices worldwide.
'The Amazing Spider-Man'
Bringing fresh blood to the franchise, actor Andrew Garfield took over for Maguire as Spider-Man in The Amazing Spider-Man, which hit theaters on July 3, 2012.
The British actor starred in the film alongside Emma Stone (Gwen Stacy), Rhys Ifans (The Lizard/Dr. Curt Connors), Denis Leary (Captain Stacy), Martin Sheen (Uncle Ben), and Sally Field (Aunt May).
Made on a budget of $230 million, the Garfield-led Spider-Man movie made $757 million in gross worldwide sales.
'The Amazing Spider-Man 2'
Two years later, in 2014, Garfield reprised his role as Peter Parker/Spider-Man. Opening in theaters on May 2, 2014, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 made $708 million at box offices worldwide on a budget of $200 million.
'Spider-Man: Homecoming'
Tom Holland took over the lead role from Garfield in 2017 when Spider-Man: Homecoming premiered on July 7, 2017.
The star-studded cast included Holland (Spider-Man/Peter Parker), Michael Keaton (Adrian Toomes/Vulture), Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man/Tony Stark), Marisa Tomei (May Parker), Jon Favreau (Happy Hogan), Gwyneth Paltrow (Pepper Potts), Zendaya (Michelle), and Donald Glover (Aaron Davis).
Fifth in the franchise, Spider-Man: Homecoming made $880 million at box offices worldwide on a budget of $175 million.
'Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse'
In between premieres of the live-action films, Marvel released Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, an animated version of the classic comic book story.
Jake Johnson (New Girl) voiced Peter Parker while other actors such as Nicolas Cage (Spider-Man Noir), Lily Tomlin (Aunt May), Hailee Steinfeld (Gwen Stacy), Shameik Moore (Miles Morales), and Mahershala Ali (Uncle Aaron) lent their voices to the animated film.
The film made $375 million in total from box offices around the world.
'Spider-Man: Far From Home'
Holland has reprised his role as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the latest installment in the franchise. This time around, Zendaya, plays MJ or Mary Jane, a role first inhabited on the big screen by Dunst.
Jake Gyllenhaal joins the cast as Quentin Beck/Mysterio as well as Samuel L. Jackson in the role of Nick Fury, and 18-year-old actress, Angourie Rice, playing Betty Brant.
The film is expected to bring in a sizeable profit from the box office and has big shoes to fill for Marvel considering Avengers: Endgame broke box office records.
