Midsommar (2019)
If you loved Hereditary, you shouldn't miss Midsommar. This latest Ari Aster horror flick follows Dani, a grief-stricken college student who joins her boyfriend and his friends on a last-minute trip to Sweden. However, the group doesn't end up as tourists in Stockholm. Instead, they head to a small settlement to celebrate its fabled mid-summer festival that occurs only once in 90 years. At first, their hosts seem mildly bizarre but harmless. However, things escalate quickly. Dani and company soon find themselves isolated and alone in the grips of a pagan cult.

Midsommar builds its horror and absurdity slowly and purposefully. The film resembles a drug trip — surreal, outlandish, and gripping. The cinematography is eerily bright and colorful, creating a masterful juxtaposition between the visuals and the horrifying events unfolding on the screen. It's one of the best horror films of recent years and without a doubt one of the best movies on Amazon Prime Video.
Lifeforce (1985)
This 1985 film is a true cult classic. It's a mashup of several genres. At first, you think this will be a space-based sci-fi movie, as a human expedition to Halley's Comet finds a hidden alien spacecraft with three human-looking aliens in stasis. Then, the movie goes into horror mode as the female-looking alien comes to life and stars sucking the "lifeforce" out of humans. Finally, the last third of the film is an end-of-the-world movie, as humanity is looking like it's on its last legs. It's a wild ride and one of the best horror movies on Amazon Prime.
The Lighthouse (2019)
Set in the late 19th century, the two actors play characters who are manning a remote lighthouse on the New England coast. That's all we wish to say about this movie. The rest of this black-and-white movie you should experience for yourself. While it's not as supernatural as The White, it is without a doubt one of the best horror movies on Amazon Prime.
Monsters (2010)
Before Gareth Edwards directed the 2014 version of Godzilla, he directed this very small budget movie that's also about giant kaiju-like creatures. It takes place in Mexico, some time after an alien space probe crash lands in that country, and massive monsters start to appear. The storyline, about a couple who try to traverse through the "infected zone" to get back to the US, is just an excuse to see some cool giant monster action. It's one of the best horror movies on Amazon Prime Video.
Vivarium (2020)
Imogen Poots and Jesse Eisenberg play a young couple in this 2020 movie. Like many young couples, they are searching for a nice, afforable house to live in. They get directed to a new housing development called Yonder. All of the houses in this development look exactly the same. The two people try to leave Yonder, but for some reason, they are unable to do so. However, being trapped in a housing development is the least of their problems.
Suspiria (2018)
Inspired by the 1977 Italian film of the same name, Suspiria is more of a reimagining than a remake of the horror classic. It sees Susie Bannion, a young American, audition to be part of a prestigious dance group in West Berlin. As she studies there, sinister things begin happening to those around her. One of the dance students disappears after confiding to her therapist that her teachers are involved in the occult.

Suspiria's unique blend of violence, dance, and hypnotic visuals make it seem like you're watching a forbidden ancient ritual. It's both enthralling and unnerving, thanks to Luca Guadagnino's excellent direction. Some critics might pan it as pretentious, but it is one of the best horror movies of recent years, nonetheless.
Nosferatu (1922)
Before Dracula was cemented in popular consciousness as a gentleman with sleek hair and a flowing cape, he was Count Orlok — a mysterious, monstrous vampire.

Nosferatu is the first (although unofficial) silver screen adaptation of Dracula. It is a 1922 silent film and one of the few movies from this age to survive to the present day. Because the filmmakers never acquired the rights to Bram Stoker's novel, there are some significant differences in the plot and characters. However, this is to the movie's benefit. It is unpredictable, tense, and eerie. Even if you find silent films hard to sit through, Nosferatu demands your attention with its creepy visuals and dancing shadows. It is a classic that every horror fan should watch at least once.
The Descent (2005)
This UK-produced movie is actually set in the North Carolina Appalachian mountains. Six women go there to explore a cave system. Sounds like a fun day out right? Wrong. These ladies soon encounter some humanoid-looking creatures, and they are not happy to see visitors.

The combination of claustrophobia and attacking monsters makes this movie a perfect one for watching late at night. You may never want to go into a cave again.
Night of the Living Dead (1968)
If there is a movie we can call a true zombie classic, it is without a question George Romero's Night of the Living Dead. Written, directed, and edited by Romero, the film was shot on a measly $114,000 budget but raked in millions. The movie begins with Barbra and her brother Johnny visiting their father's grave, as they are suddenly attacked by a strange ghoulish man. Johnny dies, while Barbra barely escapes with her life. She is saved by a stranger and they are forced to barricade in a house as the hoards of undead approach.
If the plot sounds familiar, it is because it has been emulated repeatedly in the decades after Night of the Living Dead's release. At the time, the film delivered a first-of-its-kind true apocalyptic horror, ushering in a new age for the genre and setting the standards for horror films for decades to come. If you haven't seen it, do yourself a favor and watch it on Prime Video today.
Hellraiser (1987)
Hellraiser was a wickedly evil film for its time. It is based on The Hellbound Heart — a 1986 novella written by Clive Barker. Surprisingly, the author also wrote the screenplay and directed the film, breathing life into the Cenobites on the big screen. The plot revolves around a mysterious puzzle box that summons the otherworldly creatures. They have forgotten the difference between pain and pleasure and are capable of horrifying things.
Hellraiser is a horror cult classic. In a decade when most horror villains were slashers, it offered something different, bizarre, and taboo. It might not have the same impact today as it did when it was released, but it is still one of the best horror movies you need to check out on Amazon Prime.
